It’s Friday, which is “posting” day, but I’ve used up all my profound thinking cells already this week (see last post), so here’s some “Finding Direction” trivia questions for you all. I’m going to let you do the profound thinking today and all weekend, if you need to. We’ll see how long you’ve really been hanging around and how closely you pay attention.
And no cheating! You can’t go rummaging back through the posts to discover the answers if you don’t already know them, okay? And no family members can play, either. Just all the rest of you. Oh – and I’ll tell you all the answers later.
Here goes:
(1) This blog hasn’t always been “Finding Direction: The Wind Vane Chronicles.” Can anyone tell me what the original name of this blog was before I changed it to Finding Direction?
(2) What special event am I looking forward to here on Finding Direction in approximately seven days? (Big hint: You can find the answer to this one on this “page” somewhere if you think about it.)
(3) Who is Captain John W. Gulf?
(4) What were the names of our three cats?
(5) What is my all time favorite foreign film?
(6) What is my favorite food (and this is a throwaway question if you’ve been paying any attention at all!)?
(7) Where were my mom and I going on a trip together once when we got totally lost?
(8) Where did Tom and I meet and what was his specific job at the time?
(9) What was the name of our boat?
(10) What happened on the first camping trip I ever went on with Tom?
Questions are worth 10 points apiece, with credit being given for partial answers.
Bonus Question (worth 20 points): Where was I born, that I rarely divulge?
Get busy thinking and writing out your answers as they come to you. Let’s see who gets the highest grade and award! I’m going to be “monitoring” your comments to see how you’re doing and coming along.
Cheers!

Hey Dee,
Hang in there! I know it seems like your foot will never heal… and you wish it would so badly… but in the meantime, keep doing what you can… and make the most of your time.
I pray that your difficulties, and Tom’s exhausting work schedule will pass quickly
I took the test. I couldn’t answer all of them but think I got some:
(1) This blog hasn’t always been “Finding Direction: The Wind Vane Chronicles.” Can anyone tell me what the original name of this blog was before I changed it to Finding Direction?
The first name was “Meandering Footprints”
(2) What special event am I looking forward to here on Finding Direction in approximately seven days? (Big hint: You can find the answer to this one on this “page” somewhere if you think about it.)
“posting” day?
(3) Who is Captain John W. Gulf?
A statue – The founder of Gulfport (hahahaha)
(5) What is my all time favorite foreign film?
Cinema Paradiso
(6) What is my favorite food (and this is a throwaway question if you’ve been paying any attention at all!)?
Mexican Food, tex-mex? … or popcorn… perhaps with diet peach iced tea mixed with diet lemonade
(7) Where were my mom and I going on a trip together once when we got totally lost?
Lukenbach, TX ? Probably not right but I remember you had trouble finding it.
(10) What happened on the first camping trip I ever went on with Tom?
Terrible sunburn, swelling, blisters, mosquito bites, chiggers.
David
Well – I finally got a “bite” on my 10 “Finding Direction” trivia questions from my dear friend from Tammany Oaks, David Gilbert. And he’s been paying attention a lot more than I thought!
I don’t want to give away all the answers yet, so am not going to divulge everything about his answers, but will say this – he took a stab at 7 out of the 10 questions and got 6 out of the 7 absolutely correct.
One of his answers was incorrect (and I’m not saying yet which one). He didn’t try on questions 4, 8 or 9, so now it’s up to the rest of you to figure out:
(1) which one of his answers was incorrect,
(2) what the correct answer to that particular question IS,
(3)what the answers to 4, 8 & 9 are,
(4) and the answers to the other six that David has already correctly answered. In other words, if you’re bright enough, you can steal from his six correct answers to add to your own score.
Okay. Get busy thinking and answering. David G. has a score of 60 so far. Let’s see how the rest of you can do (especially now that David has given you six of the answers, already, to choose from!).
Later.
Dee
Hey Dee,
Sorry for not commenting but I have not been around much lately due to being sick.
I read your comment and I am so sorry to hear and if/when I can be of any help just holler!
I sent you my e-mail address and phone number.
I pray y’all are doing ok.
God’s Grace.
OK… Here is my best try, with a smile.
1) “They named a town in west Texas after me
Superdome, backup for Archie Manning?
2) The chip to boost your scooter’s RPM is set to arrive?
3) Hailing from Guadalajara, John is the original “Gulf of Mexico
4) Winkin, Blinkin, and Nod?
5) Oklahoma? It is a foreign country…
6) Pez?
7) Buffalo Gap?
9) USS Minnow?
10) You actually found a snipe?

Great answers. You even got a couple of “partial” answers right, amazingly enough. (Well, sort of.)
I have to give you 5 points for answer #3 about Captain Gulf and 5 points for answer #5, as well, since we are all aware that Oklahoma, is indeed, a foreign country (sorry Bobby & Tamie). However, that’s not my favorite foreign film, although I did like the musical “Oklahoma” a whole lot.
As for answer #6, you got the first letter of the word right, so I guess I COULD give you 1 point, but don’t think I will. You’ve got to pay better attention than that!
As for Buffalo Gap – my SISTER and I got lost going down there one day from Abilene, but my mom knows exactly where THAT is. We got lost further down the road than that!
And while Tom DID use to hang out in the Superdome a lot of Sundays as a journalist/photographer for the Picayune Item for a lot of the Saints games when Archie was quarterback, that’s NOT where I met him. Good try, and close, but not quite specific enough (I promise I’ll give you all the links back to the posts with all the correct answers when the test is over).
Answers 9 & 10 are way off base. No scores there, so you have a total at the moment of 10, which isn’t as high as David G.’s score. Sorry. Better luck next time.
I take exception to the slaps at my beloved state of Oklahoma. Well, six years my state, but still beloved!
Amy – How do you think it feels to be a resident of the state of Louisiana and/or Mississippi, which always rank 50 and 49 in any kind of polls taken across the nation as being the “worst” at whatever, including New Orleans having been called the “fat capitol” of the world, among other things, because of all the great food here that everyone EATS, surprise, surprise.
Besides, I grew up (and claim to be, although not born there, giving out a big clue here on my Bonus Question worth 20 points) a Texan, so you know how it is between Texas and Oklahoma. What can I say? I mean – do you have anything good to say, as an Oklahoman, about Texas, other than it is superior to Oklahoma in every way (look at the Rose Bowl game, for instance!).
I don’t want to hurt your feelings, though, because I like you a lot. Besides, I have very fond memories from every time I’ve ever been in Oklahoma. Plus, my mom was born there, so that’s part of my heritage, too.
See – deep down inside we’re all the same. Just from different little corners of our big common world.
