I saw the retinologist yesterday afternoon and my eyes are still half dilated so I can’t see worth a flip still. Thus a short post, which you’re probably happy to see anyway, hunh?
Speaking of which – being happy that is – here’s the question for the day. I need answers because I’m running an experiment. On y’all, of course, so consider yourself a guinea pig for the professor (moi) today and please respond.
What do you (can you) do to make yourself a happier person, or do you think you can?
Okay, that’s really two questions disguised as one, but you can handle it! My next post, Lord willing and my vision improves, is going to be on what it takes to lead a happier life, but I want your imput first. I’m being scientific here for a change. (Big change, I know, but hey – I’m a person of many talents, among them being a person of scientific inquiry and investigation. ha!)
I’ll be around to read your blogs if and when my vision gets better. It’s lousy right now. Please pray for me about it if you would. My vision is no longer 20/20 in my left eye due to diabetic disease in both of them. The left one still has edema (swelling) in it from blood pooling in the retina and now he wants to give me (next time in two weeks) an injection of an anti-inflammatory drug directly into my eyeball! I know. It sounds horrible, but he thinks will improve my vision. I’m thinking about it. As in considering the risks, which are "rare, but real," he says. Like losing my eye. Yuck! So, how does one make such decisions, I ask, intelligently and informed as I am? If I’d had time to fully contemplate the open heart surgery and five bypasses I probably wouldn’t have done that either, though. You know? I mean – what are the choices? I want my vision better than right now for sure. Can’t see well at all. And blogging is my biggest vice! ha!
Please pray for me if you will. Please.

Dee,
you are all ways in my prayers!
Dee, first thanks for your kinds words my post today. You certainly have my prayers and I would approach your elders to ask them about “James 5″
As to your question, I’m going to type something that was given to me that I used to give to my kids when I was coaching Little League. It goes like this:
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, or a home.
The remarkable thing is that we have a choice everyday. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play the one string we have, and that is our attitude…I am convinced that life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes.â€
To answer your question to make myself happier comes down to a choice on my part no matter my circumstances. This is something I haven’t come close to mastering but I’m trying.
Prayer? Certainly!
Before you agree to take that shot in the eyeball, ask someone who can see well if that doctor’s hand is steady!
For your question … my attorney wants to know if this is another set up where you ask a question just to lure us in and then you …. well, you know. You’ve done it to us before!
Seriously, I make a distinction between happiness and joy. What does it take for me to be happy? The right set of circumstances. However, joy is spiritual fruit from God and people can have tremendous joy in the context of horrible circumstances.
A guy recently spoke at our church and told of having his leg sheared off in a motorcycle accident. Fascinating story … he now has a $2 million prosthetic leg. He said he’s learned from his experience there are only two things in life over which we have any control. One has to do with the choices we make. The other has to do with our attitudes. When I choose to be happy, generally I am a happy guy. And I choose that more and more these days as I realize I don’t have that many days left compared to the ones I’ve already spent.
Will pray for you, Dee.
I find that I am happiest when I take time to realize how blessed I am. Unfortunately, sometimes, I take too much for granted.
Thanks,
Bobby
