The Good Shepherd

We went to see "The Good Shepherd" last night, which is the story of how the CIA got its beginnings in this country back during and immediately following World War II.  It's a fictional account, but is "based on" reality, whatever that really means.

It was a very long movie presented in a very slow methodical way.  In other words - I got a bit bored, although Tom liked it a whole lot.   He reads a lot of mystery novels, historical novels and history books and good spy stories all the time so was very interested.  Me - I sort of dozed off for just a few minutes (I'm telling you, just a few - as in "not many").

So after the movie in the car Tom and I were talking about it and he mentions the German girl that the lead character and the CIA supposedly whacked.  I said, "German girl?"  And he says, "You know - the secretary with the hearing aid that he slept with."

I said, "Hearing aid?  Do you mean the first hard of hearing girlfriend, Laura?"

"No," he says.  "The German girl when he was in Berlin and she could hear him from the other room without her hearing aid."

"Berlin?" I said.  "He was in Berlin?"

I'm tellin' ya, I was just resting my eyes for a couple of minutes and that's all.  But somehow I missed the whole Berlin whack job episode.  Stupid movie.

I did see the later whack job, though.  You know - when he went to the Congo after his son and . . .

I liked it…it could have used a little more action…but I can’t believe you missed the whole Berlin part….that was pretty good.

I haven’t seen it. Probably won’t, now that I know there is so much violence. What happened to the softer side of the CIA? Or, was that a kinder, gentler nation?

I thought the whole movie was a whack job. Too long. Too slow.

Berlin? I though this was a movie about the pastoral relationships among Christ-believing beduin sheep herders.

I confess, I too fall asleep during movies that get slow. I think it is age related.

    This post cracked me up!

Have a good day, and remember, you can rent the movie soon, and catch up on the Berlin part.
