The deadline has arrived and the 2nd Annual Winter Desktop Photo Contest is drawing to a close as we speak.  Today is the last "official" day to accept photo entries, but for those of you who are real procrastinators, entries will be accepted tomorrow and Sunday no later than midnight Sunday night.

Not that the Finding Direction Judges are going to be up waiting with anticipation for the last second entries to come in or anything, but the time/date stamp on the emails as they come in will determine if you're under the wire or not, so BE under the wire, okay?  Don't want a winning entry to miss out for being sent in too late.

Last minute entries, excuses and disclaimers have been pouring in the past couple of days keeping the FD Judges' spirits up (which is the whole point of the endeavor, in case the Judges haven't told you that!)  Just kidding, don't be upset.  The whole point is to see what latent talent lies amid us among you fellow bloggers and readers alike.

And if the photos received are any indication, you all are a talented bunch indeed.  The entries have been quite impressive.  The Finding Direction Judges are going to have a hard job determining all of the winners and there will be many, rest assured.

There are lots of categories up for consideration so you'll get to see lots of superb photos next week when the winners are all posted.

The FD Judges have been quite pleased with the cooperative spirit shown among the entrants this time, too.  I mean TCS and Nancy French have managed to keep their competitive taunts to a minimum.  Well - for them a minimum.

Actually their competitive taunts go on pretty much year round.  The Finding Direction photo contests just give them a good forum in which to ratchet up the competition.  Which is fine.  After all we are entering a big political period in this nation's quest for a new president to be chosen in the 2008 elections and we know how many people are already posturing and posing for that race.  So why should the Finding Direction Judges expect anything less from it's contestants.

We all know that Nancy French is highly politically active in her support of Mitt Romney, so it follows she would have a competitive spirit with TCS over the Finding Direction selections of winners.  After all, this IS a very important competition here you all realize.

Along with competitive barbs, competitive bribes have been pouring in, as well, but the FD Judges' integrity is impeccable so not to worry.  Although some of the offers have been pretty good ones.  One was for a free tattoo, after all!  Hard to turn that one down!

That's it for today.  The FD Judges are busy accepting last minute entries and checking them all out.  All of the entries have been placed on the Finding Direction Judges' computer as the current screen saver photos so that they all may be seen floating in and out to compare and contrast as to how they look on moi's desktop.

Each photo entry has been tagged as the Judges' desktop photo for short periods of time for judging, since the point of the contest is to find the best new winter desktop photo to reign on said desktop until spring.  Right now the Finding Direction Judges and staff, publisher, writers, editors and photographers are busy with said winter contest and thinking ahead to next summer's 2nd Annual Summer Desktop Photo Contest, which went extremely well last summer with the subject matter being trees.

The Judges may consider adding annual Finding Direction Spring and Fall Desktop Photo Contest if the public so demands.  And by public, that means all of you who are bloggers, commenters and quiet readers so let me know if you'd like to see those contests added as well.  It might be fun to get in some pretty spring and fall photos to run.  These photos you all send in are many very professional looking (well, some actually are professional, but I mean other ones, too) and add much to my heart by seeing all of your talent displayed in front of me.

In fact - tell you what.  When the winners are announced next week, if any of you are taken with any given photo, just tell me and I'll email it to you to have for your own desktop photo or screen saver.  That seems only fair.

Adios for now.  Y'all have a great day and weekend and watch for next week's winners to be announced with all of their photos presented for your viewing.  That's always a fun day and a huge event here at Finding Direction.  I mean, already I've gotten in about 40 photos!  That's pretty cool, guys!

Cheers & Blessings to you all today!  Dee

Dee you’ll have to extend some “blog grace” to this Florida Boy. I had good intentions for a “Winter in Florida” picture but it never materialized. It looks like thanks to “El Nino” are winter will be one of Tornadoes as we were hit this morning with F3 to possibly F4 tornadoes.

I’ll have to admit, I find myself anticipating the banter between TCS and Nancy French more than who wins what! So thanks for sponsoring a venue for them to slug it out … bless their hearts.

    “Bless our hearts?”

Greg England, TCS and I will not stand for that kind of language around here!

(We’re southern enough to KNOW what that means, right TCS-whom-I’m-going-to-beat-even-tho-he-likes-Mitt-Romney?)

Dee: I may have just stumbled into the fracas quite unintentionally!

Humm…. I find it hard to believe that this was unintentional, Mr. England. Are you trying to trash-talk me because of your obviously superior last name?
