Happy Valentine’s Day! I could just wax eloquent about Tom and how crazy about him I still am after all the years I’ve known him – some 28 now – as a work colleague, a friend, a lover, a husband, giving him credit for every good thing in my life in all that time. And I often do. I talk about him in glowing all the time here at Finding Direction and I tell him the very same things without ceasing.
He’s not a perfect man, but he’s about the most perfect specimen I’ve ever met and I’ve met and known a lot of men. He loves with with that kind of love that no one talks about on Valentine’s Day. He loves me with agape love – God’s love. The love Paul describes in I. Corinthians 13.
In fact, the day we were married – on my birthday on March 2, 1991, so it was a doubly blessed day – we handed out pages to everyone with most of I Corinthians 13 written on it and we had someone read it during our wedding ceremony.
Tom has fulfilled every single one of those descriptions and done so in flying colors. His examples of love for me are not of the candy and flowers type. They are the real thing.
I’ve written about him being there as I was drifting back into consciousness after my open heart surgery and five bypasses and how profound the touch of his hand holding mine was and the sound of his loving voice. In fact, if you really want to read about love, read this really short post and weep: "Out of the Darkness . . .". I think you will be glad you did.
That linked post pretty much sums up Tom for me, so instead of writing a lot more about him, I want to encourage you to follow his example and to follow Paul’s eloquent description of how love should be. When you can learn to love someone else – even one person – in that way . . . fully, completely, without self interests first and with an abiding passion, you will have Valentine’s Day every day of your life and won’t have to worry so much about getting candy and/or flowers or both on one day of the year. Every day will be filled with romance and love.
So Happy Valentine’s Day to each of you. Each of you who stops by here holds a special place in my heart all of the time and I pray for each and every one of you that you will be blessed in your life and for being part of mine.

Hats off to Tom. Isn’t it interesting how God brought you through all of that pain to find Tom.
Wow, you two started your lives together just one week after we got married. Hubby and I married on Feb. 23, 1991, hard to believe it has been 16 years!
