I mean, it’s not a big celebrity sighting or anything, although Bobby Valentine‘s interview the past couple of days ranks right up there, but I’ve just come from my infamous "Site Meter" where I was checking on the hits overnight and came across a couple of interesting ones.
The first was from the city of Madrid, Province of Madrid, Spain. That person was looking for a "the-ologist" and found little ol’ me here in south Mississippi on my blog! How cool is that?! The mighty theologian of the South! (Or you might make that the "Dee-ologian" of the South, more appropriately, don’t ya think? – "Ha! I kill me!" she says in her best ALF voice.)
But then – there was a really neat one. From France – the state/region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, city of Nice. They were looking for for an ultrasound wind vane instrument. I’ve never heard of one, but it sounds mighty interesting to me and I may just have to engage in my own Google search to see if I can find one.
I get a lot of stray hits looking for wind vanes. And pop corn. Two of my all time favorite things, neither of which I’ve written about in a long while. How many of you have read any of my special "Wind Vane" stories? Maybe I need to re-post one or two. They deal with different subjects, but the wind usually plays a part in the stories somewhere, in some fashion or other.
And how many of you have ever noticed the wind vane picture on this blog page up on the upper right side? I did do a search for wind vane pictures to find that one and they were hard to find, believe it or not. At the time I didn’t have any photos of my own famous wind vane and wanted a good one to use on my page here, which seemed most appropriate, and like to never have found one.
I finally found the one that I used, which is part of a famous landmark on the American scene. Anyone have a clue as to where my wind vane picture on this page was taken? It’s not that hard to identify if you will think about it for a couple of minutes. You can tell by looking at the cupola it is on top of that it is a Colonial building, most likely. I’ll give you that huge clue.
That’s about all I have for today. Just a few thoughts on beautiful and exotic places in the world like Madrid, Spain and Nice, France and American historical places that have lovely wind vanes on top of them. I don’t even know who took the photo. It was an amateur shot of the entire building with with top part pulled out to show the wind vane more clearly.
Tom and I took later took some photos of my own wind vane to use here, but we couldn’t get a good background here in the apartment and the photos weren’t nearly as good as what I already have here, so I’m leaving it.
Maybe the next big Finding Direction photo contest (here‘s last winter’s winners and the first winter’s winners) should require the inclusion of a wind vane in the picture. I fear I’d get no photos, though, as I’ve not been able to find many photos already done and trying to capture a wind vane on top of a tall building or house isn’t the easiest thing in the world. So, guess not. Anyone got any good ideas about that? What the subject matter should be for the upcoming 2nd Annual Finding Direction Summer Desktop Photo Contest? Last summer’s contest had to include trees, if you remember, and some great photos were received, as always. (Check back here to see last summer’s great winners. You’ll be glad you did.)
So, you have two assignments for today. Figure out where my wind vane photo was taken and give me a good subject for the upcoming summer photo contest that you’d like to take pictures of or already have have pictures of.
I’ll be seeing you in comments and responding myself!
Cheers & Blessings to you all today! Dee

Thanks for the scavenger hunt, Dee…. that weather vane is from Mount Vernon, isn’t it?
And for a summer picture… how about something with a dog in it?? The dog days of summer….
Yep! You’re right. It IS Mt. Vernon, the home of George Washington in Virginia. I love the look of the wind vane photo on my page here, too, don’t you think? I mean, it seems to fly and gives a great sense of direction I think.
I also like your idea about dogs – as in the dog days of summer. I’ll have to think about that. There are definitely a lot of dog lovers among the Finding Direction readers and many more, I think, who could find dogs to take pictures of, no doubt.
Thanks, Karen!
Dee
Well, what’s summer without flowers? Or some summertime activities: riding bikes, swimming, drinking lemonade, picnics, etc. Not sure what you’re looking for exactly since I’m new to the desktop photo contest, but those are my ideas.
How about a photo contest, on Clouds ,
I like the idea about the dog days of Summer but purely from a selfish point of view because I KNOW my little Maggie Moo would win! Now if I could just find my camera…….
Good grief! When I wrote my last comment above, I got stuck in my own comment moderation limbo. What’s up with that?!
You girls have come up with some great ideas. I like all of them so far. I’m going to have to think about this.
Lisa – look back at the winners of the previous contests and you’ll get an idea about how great and varied the entries always are for my summer and winter contests. The contests are to choose the best computer desktop photo for the season for me right here at my desk. Everyone always has a lot of fun entering and bantering back and forth with each other. It’s a fun time and I get great photos in to choose from.
I was thinking….bubbles…
that would be cool ! Donna
ya find me out did ya DEE!
How about pics that include water? It’s summer, it’s hot, we’re all thirsty, etc.
Great blog, Dee.
