Remembering This Week’s Phrase - Giving Thanks in All Circumstances
May 12th, 2007 at 8:53 am by Dee O'Neil Andrews
It just struck me this morning how appropriate my Sunday post was for this week that has been. Do you remember reading Sunday's post (here)? It is where I wrote about our "word/phrase for the week" and this week's phrase was to "give thanks in all circumstances."
If you have been reading this week you know that it's been a very stressful and turbulent week with my dear son David being struck down with passing a kidney stone. He's here alone with the two little ones, 4 and 2, and I have been extraordinarily thankful that I've been here with them. Karen, my daughter-in-law, and the two girls are out of town for a week, so David invited me up to visit and to see their new house and all. We thought we would be doing some sightseeing and fun things this week, but it has not been so due to David's illness.
However, once a mom always a mom and I have done my best to care for David and to look after the boys as best I can while David rests.
You know - we must be careful what we ask for in this world because sometimes we get it. On the other hand, life has a way of happening to us with events way beyond our control so we must do the best we can in whatever circumstances we find ourselves. I think the key to being a successful person in life is to be a person of faith and hope in God and Jesus Christ in all things, no matter what.
That requires a lot of disciplined living on our parts, which comes to fruit when times are hard. David and I have been "enduring" this week because of our past histories of being disciplined in good times.
Yesterday and today so far are much better for David, and thus for me. I trust and pray he will continue to do well . . . until the next time. I only hope that then he will receive comfort and aid in his times of illness as well. The doctors found four more stones in his two kidneys so he may one day have to endure a couple of weeks such as the past two have been for him. I pray not, but he will be fine in the end, as will we all if we keep the faith and perservere.
In the meantime - Cheers & Blessings to you all today from beautiful Winchester, Virginia! Dee
Dee,
I’ve been reading about your son’s ordeal throughout the week. I’m so thankful that you were able to be there. Anybody can go sightseeing. Not everybody can be such a gracious mom.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Ben
Dee … your son is blessed to have a mom like you.
Have a great Mom’s Day tomorrow.
We’ve been enjoying your trip via blogs / emails. So glad you could be there at this moment in time for David and those little guys! I also hope you will post some pictures of the house and 11 acres. For me? We don’t see houses with 11 acres in Southern California.
Happy Mother’s Day! My sermon today began with a reading in 1 Samuel 17 where David cuts off Goliath’s head. I told the church, “I bet you haven’t had that kind of Scripture reading on Mother’s Day before.” Of course my message was on the topic of Faith Vs. Faith. Moms always tell us, “Can’t never could do nothing.” In this text all the people but David are focused on what can’t be done while David is focused on what God can do!’
Peace.
