A Blogger Goes Off to the Mississippi Press Association’s Summer Convention
June 20th, 2007 at 7:50 am by Dee O'Neil Andrews
We're off this afternoon for the rest of the week to the Beau Rivage in Biloxi where the Mississippi Press Association is holding its big Summer Convention.
We are really excited about it this year for a lot of reasons, one being that Tom is going to be installed as the new President of the MPA for the coming year! Isn't that wonderful?! He's been on the MPA Board of Directors for several years and this past year has worked really hard as Vice President.
Tom's daughter and her family will be joining us for the convention from Dallas (Grand Prairie), as well, so that will be fun. They run a children's orchestra in Grand Prairie as an avocation and members of the orchestra will provide the music for tomorrow night's President's Reception at the convention.
Friday night will be the President's dinner and Saturday at noon at a luncheon, the MPA will be handing out a number of excellence in journalism awards to winning members and newspapers.
We will be tied up most of Saturday with events, so won't head home until Sunday afternoon and then - y'all - we've got to get packed up to move into our house next Tuesday - plywood kitchen counter tops and all. We were out there for a while last night oohing and ahhing over all of the last minute details that the workers took care of yesterday and even more final touches are supposed to happen today, so this is a good time for us.
Tom is taking his laptop to the convention, so I'm planning on blogging while I'm there, which I do annually, giving a blow by blow account of what all is going on and how all of the journalists around me will react to a competitive (what? me competitive?) blogger.
So . . . how will they know I'm a blogger, you ask? The proof is in the attire.

I hope to blog again sometime tomorrow, so watch for my on the road posts.
Meantime - cheers & blessings to you all today and wish us good fortune! Dee
This is especially true for us teachers/summer vacation/ bloggers. You need to take some picture of your kitchen with the plywood countertops to prep for a before and after series.
Have a great time at the Convention and congrats to Mr. President.
Love the cartoon….don’t rub it in Cecil…some of us have to work all YEAR!!
I’ll be on the road this weekend, too…safe travels to you and your family!
Dee,
Sounds like great fun. Be safe and have wonderful time!
Ben
God’s traveling mercies to you on you journey. Get some pictures for us.
Peace.
As I’m typing this, you’re packing boxes … and loving every moment! I know, I’m unpacking boxes from that lovely time in my life last week! Hope all goes well in the move. We had so much help on both ends of the move, it was not at all exhausting. The worst part was the SoCal traffic! Three times it took us over 3 hours to make a 90 mile drive. Only in LA!!
Hope you enjoyed the convention.
Dee - I have been pretty well tied to the real world since the first of March and have sadly not visited my “virtual” friends very often.
From another source I was steered to Bobby V’s series on heaven and saw he had been interviewed by you back in April so went to look for that interview and lo & behold on the adjacent post you quoted me - little old me — I’m humbled but “tickled pink” that I said something you found worth quoting — I take that as a very hign honor indeed.
I’m home now — but haven’t been able to get myself back to the “rhythm” of posting soI’m way behind in that as well.
My visit here may help “kick start” my thinking and get me back to something that I really do find helpful in maintaining my sense of well being — I sometimes feel that I am better at listening to God as I write about my life and the experiences (good or bad) that I’m going through and I do know my life is enriched and that I listen to God better as I am blessed by your writing and that of the other bloggers I have come to know..
God Bless
Charlie
Waiting for that first “from the convention” blog, Dee. Did you get sidelined? Did your laptop die? C’mon, toss us something!
Are ya out there???????????
Come on Dee, we’re waiting for the “Dee” word.
I hope your move is going well and look forward to reading about it and the convention!
