Word For The Week – Peace – Gal 5:22

July 8th, 2007 · 4 Comments · Reflections, Spirituality, Uncategorized

Peace is our "Fruits of the Spirit" word are us all to work on together this week, and I sure need it.  It’s amazing how the words that I choose randomly each Sunday seem to be tailored specifically for me and what all is going on in my life.  Our lives.

For instance – our major problem at the moment and really most of the days and nights we’ve been in our new house, which has been about a week and a half now, has been stoppages in the main plumbing lines in the slab under the house between the laundry room and master bathroom.  The commode keeps backing way up and stopping up in the master bath and then last week on Thursday when I tried to run our first load of laundry, sewage backed up in the bottom of our big master bath shower and filled the commode in there, as well.

The plumber came out the next day with his snake and snaked dirt out of the clean out pipe on the side of the house and thought he had it all fixed.  I went ahead and did several loads of laundry on Thursday and Friday a little over a week ago and all seemed well.

But by the beginning of this past week, our commode was gurgling when we took showers and really slow emptying out and sort of backing up in the process.  We called our builde Tuesday, who was on his way out of town for the holiday (of course!?!), but he said the plumber would be out.

The plumber never showed.

So yesterday, I bravely (and in hindsight, of course, stupidly) thought that maybe, just maybe, I could do one or two loads of laundry without trouble.

Nope.

So . . . sewage backed up in the shower again and in the commode, the house stunk to high heaven and it was pretty miserable for several hours till the water all very slowly receded and I was able to wash out the bottom of the shower and clean out the commode.

Meanwhile, we’re able to use the dishwasher in the kitchen and the guest bathroom and shower, which is on the far side of the house and obviously past the blockage.

I desperately need some peace about this in my life.  Desperately.  I am most demoralized and despondent about moving into a brand new house and immediately – the very first day we are here – having major blockages in our sewer system, you know?!   I mean – it’s enough to get anyone depressed.

So I need to concentrate today on God’s peace in my heart, including some of that peace that passes understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Jesus Christ.

Here’s wishing and praying you have peace in your life this week, as well.

Cheers & Blessings to you all today and all week long.  Dee

I am not sure that the saintliest (is that a real word or did I just make that up?) of all of us, could deal with sewer problems and still have peace! It is most aggrivating to have problems with a brand new house. I am sending up a little prayer that the builder will be out bright and early tomorrow to fix the problem.

mak said it – don’t be too hard on yourself Dee. A new home isn’t supposed to have sewage backing up into it. As well as anyone can, may you be able to be at peace with the plumbing situation and may your builder/plumber make this situation right, soon.

It seems water is hard to tame. A few years ago we built a new house in Tennessee. It had a beautiful red metal roof. A seam wasn’t attached correctly. The first time it rained, it leaked. I was not in a state of peace. But after a bit of tweaking, the builder corrected the problem. A few years later we moved into an old, 4,000 sq. ft. colonial. The first night in the place it rained sideways. The roof leaked in at least 10 different places. No peace. But it never leaked again, and I eventually got over it. Here in New York when it rains heavily, the drain backs up under the street and gurgles up into a drain in my basement. Peace, peace, where is peace when you house smells like crap and the city has to keep coming out to unclog their mess? But, the lack of tranquility always passes and all is well.

Peace will come. But not as quickly as you’d like. : )

You’re in Mississippi, for heaven’s sake. They aren’t all that used to indoor plumbing there so what do you expect??? :)

I’d grab that builder and plumber by the ear and shove their noses in the shower drain (if, of course, they were much smaller and weaker) and tell them they aren’t leaving this property until it was fixed. Otherwise, I’d get a refrigerator box from Sears and carefully place it over a rather deep hole in the back yard. It won’t help much with showering but could be a gift from heaven for other basic needs.

Hope it all gets straightened out today!! In the meantime, stay out of that “fruit of the Spirit” cup … you don’t even want to pull the “patience” slip.
