Dee,

Life is like your temporary plywood countertop. What is now, will be more glorious then–when this temporary phase is done. Today, our lives are a combination of pieces glued together under the pressure of life itself–failed expectations here, celebrative moments there, saw dust in that corner, polished stone in another.

Just tell your guests that you delayed the installation of the permanent countertop in order to serve up a metaphore with dinner. Ask them to fill in the blank–A plywoood countertop is like life in what way? You’re a writer. They’ll understand that you’re a bit weird. : )

I always enjoy your posts. I’m kind of behind due to a busy summer but I’ll catch up.

I’m not much different than you. One night in the middle of the night I sat up in bed and had a thought for a GREAT post. I was so excited to think of it. I went back to sleep woke up excitedly the next morning and couldn’t remember a thing about it. Shoot!
