Finding Direction: The Wind Vane Chronicles

Rainy Days & Mondays

It’s raining this morning and then it’s supposed to turn cold.  Of course, cold is a relative term here in the deep south.  It’s what the rest of United States might call cool with warm days.

Be that as it may, it will be a nice change.  It’s been rather warm the past several days, although the nights have been cooling off into the the upper 40s and low 50s.  Good sleeping weather under the warm comforter.

I think about all of those people in the world who don’t even have a blanket to keep them warm and I am saddened.  May we ever be mindful of those less fortunate than we are and strive to do what we can to help them.

In the meantime, here’s a poem I wrote a long time ago that expresses what I see out our windows this morning.  I hope you enjoy it.

Cheers & Blessings to each of you today!  Dee

                  Fall Morning

It’s raining for the first time in many days–
a beautiful fall rain that paints a watercolor
in browns and greens and grays.

The wind in the trees
Is blowing the leaves,
They shimmer and shake
And music they make
As they flutter around
On their way to the ground.
A crackledy, rattledy, crumpledy cough
Sputters from their throats as they all
                                fall off.

Down

              down

                          down

                                they spin

Then the wind blows them up again.

You’re just going to leave us hanging like this? What happens to leaves when the wind picks them back up?? :)

We would love to have some of your rain! Though for now, I’d prefer the rain (if it comes) wait until we actually have some grass in the back yard. Chipper running around in a muddy yard is not something I want to deal with right now.

There’s nothing like sleeping through a cool, rainy, windy night. I’d love to experience that again. We’ve been having WIND, and sand storms, and smoke, and debris from the 15 separate fires all around southern California this weekend.

Love the poem…I have really missed the rain this year, but it is raining as I type…..love it!

I am enjoying the cooler, rainy weather as well! I think fall is my favorite season! But man…when the first thing you hear on Monday morning is the pouring rain right outside your window, it makes it awfully hard to get up and go to work!

We’re looking forward to some cooler weather here. This weekend the highs might not get past 85!
