All Saints’ Day

South Louisiana and coastal Mississippi has a lot of Catholics and they participate in All Saints' Day on November 1 every year.  In New Orleans they traditionally go to the cemeteries and clean up and sit at the graves of loved ones as a measure of respect and remembrance.

As you know, many of the cemeteries are raised with above ground tombs in sometimes elaborate little buildings.  That's because the water table is so high in New Orleans that caskets can't be put in the ground because they would float to the surface.

So, today that day is being observed not far from here in a big way.

We don't observe All Saints' Day, but I kind of think it's a nice thing to do, maybe.  Setting aside one special day of the year to go to the cemetery and remember and honor those who have gone before.

Last night we had a steady stream of mostly little trick or treaters and they were cute and sweet.  We live in a nice neighborhood that is one long street out in the country so we had a lot of visitors from outside our neighborhood who didn't have any place else to go trick or treating.  That was fine, except that we weren't expecting so many tykes and ran out of the candy I'd bought for the occasion.

But, all was fine because we went into our own stash of candy that we keep all the time for Tom to munch on whenever and for me to eat when my blood sugar gets too low.  Except that ours was the really good stuff, with the less expensive candy being on hand for the kids with their overstuffed pumpkins already.

Oh . . . and here's a real cute Halloween slide show and presentation that my daughter-in-law put together of Zoe, Hanna and baby Kayci from their trick or treating last night.  You'll have to take a look because they are all dressed up and quite cute.

Plus there are pictures of their house all decorated up for Halloween.  Tom and I aren't much on Halloween, but we had fun last night greeting all the kids and a lot of neighbors.  One guy just past us down the road had his whole yard lit up with pumpkin lights and all kind of scary noises and screams.

Tom kept asking all the kids if they were going to the "scary house!"  About half said they were and the other half were afraid to do so.  I told Tom he needed to quit putting scary ideas in the kids heads!

I guess that's it this morning.  If you don't live near a cemetery where loved ones are buried, at least remember them today and give thanks for their lives and what they meant to you.  After all . . . it's All Saints' Day.

Cheer & Blessings to you each today!  Dee
