W is for . . .

I'm thankful for my Watch!  I think it's probably an American obsession to be constantly thinking about what time it is and looking at watches and clocks and I'm a prime example, I'm telling ya.  I must look at my watch or at a clock dozens and dozens to times a day.

I can't stand not knowing what time it is!

Do you do watch tricks and/or clock tricks and set yours ahead just a bit so you'll be on time places?  If you do that (I do it off and on and right now have my watch set ahead about three or four minutes), does it work for you?  Sometimes it does for me and sometimes not.  I try to be on time when I'm going anywhere, but sometimes it's hard to judge exactly how much time it's going to take.

That's been true since we've moved out here to the country.  The roads are rather narrow and windy and sometimes there will be slow vehicles in front of us that slow us down.  We lived in the middle of town before in the apartment, so I've had to get used to a whole new set of time considerations.

What are some "W" words you're thankful for today?  Share with us in comment and tell me how you handle time.  I could use some good tips!

Merry Christmas!  Dee

    Wonder! ! ! !

I am filled with it when I look at God’s creation. Or my grandson. Or, occasionally, even my psycho-pup and her never ending antics. I am filled with wonder when I think of the love of my wife and what she ever saw in me! I am filled with it when I think of the relationships I’ve had over the years … that people who know me best, continue to call me friend. And I am filled with wonder when I consider life in the context of what we do on a daily basis, dealing with people in the context of death.

Speaking of your watch and matters of time, when I was pledging a fraternity in college, any time a frat brother asked the time of day, this was the answer we had to give. I remember it verbatim after three+ decades!

“Sir, I am greatly embarrassed and deeply humiliated that due to unforeseen circumstances over which I have no control, the inner workings and hidden mechanisms of my chronometer are in such inaccord with the great sidereal movements by which time is commonly reckoned, I cannot with any degree of accuracy state the exact time. However, without fear of being too far wrong, I will estimate the time to be approximately ____ minutes, ____ seconds, past the hour of _______ (am or pm), on this ____ day of _______, in the year of our Lord, two thousand and seven, Sir!”

Of course, back then the “year of our Lord” was “one thousand, nine hundred and seventy-three.” The frat brothers would time us and we had to rattle that off in under five seconds or stand there and do it until we got it under that time limit. College life was such great fun!

I’m thankful for the Word of God–the comfort, encouragement, admonition, wisdom (another W word!) and guidance I receive from it. How fortunate we are to live in a time where we have such easy access to God’s Word in our language!

I love windows! We visited an old missile silo that was converted into a really cool house–but it had one flaw–no windows! I love being able to see outside, when like right now, snow is coming down in big beautiful flakes. I am so thankful for windows!

    Peace

I agree, it is an American obsession to watch the clock. I was in Brazil for 7 weeks one summer, and it was so refreshing not to be so tied to the time, schedule, rush to get places. I think we would benefit from more of that attitude!

Will and Whitfield - Will being my 2nd grandson and Whitfield being my surname — What would the “world” be without them– well don’t answer that with respect to me — but Will is terrific and I thank God for him.

    God Bless
    Charlie
