I can relate to Charlie. Tom and I are always saying every day is a holiday when you are retired. We also do not have a tree but we do have some decorations up with a garland of lights around our bookcase. My best present I have already received. I ordered a new LCD screen for my ibook and my son put it in for me. Apple would have charged around $400. I got the screen from e-bay (it was new) and it cost $225 and having a computer tech son comes in handy. We are flying to CA on Christmas morning to be with my cousins and their children and grandchildren. We will probably have around 40-50 people. We are flying back on Christmas night. (Advantages of flying for free!) Dee, don't let that depression spoil Christmas for you.

i enjoy it but don't get REAL up for it.

I still prefer Thanksgiving. maybe it is my CoC heritage resurfacing.

It is weird that it is really two separate things--a secular, santa claus, tree, decorating, materialistic thing

plus in most circles a celebration of the nativity.

also, both my parents died on Dec 30th. while I don't dwell on the fact. it probably is beneath the surface.

Dee, Normally, I too love Christmas. But this year with selling the house, getting rid of stuff and moving into being full time RVers, things are just not coming together. I think I have most of what I need to get for family. Friends are just out of luck this year, but I don't think they will mind. We are praying that our daughter, sil, and granddaughters will feel like having us on Christmas. After all that is why we are in FL for the holidays. Over all people have been friendly and "Merry Christmas" is heard a lot. We did decorate our little rolling home and it looks good. We wound up buying stuff because we had given too much away. But that's ok, because it was fun doing it. Merry Christmas to you. Pat

Well we are "empty nesters" and we are going to our daughter's for Christmas so we don't even have a tree. One wreath with lights outside are the extent of our (Linda's) decorations.

I have found that with our children away and most often having Christmas away from home I have been less "up" about Christmas but it has the advantage that there are fewer "blow ups" or disappointments -- also being retired everyday is a "holiday" (I wish)so there is less anticipation of "time off" to spend with people. In some ways I think it is like the true joy of being a Christian -- it is deep & abiding and not so much dependent on the daily (surface) flucuations in mood and circumstance.

May God Bless you richly as you prepare to celebrate in whatever way you do.

As we turn our hearts toward family and friends during the Christmas holiday, I wanted to let you to know that I am thankful for blessing of many new friends I’ve come to “know” here in blogland. The tie that binds us is our shared love for and devotion to the Savior whose birth we remember during this special time of the year. May your days be full of holiday blessings; and, may your heart be filled with the warmth of His presence.

Blessings,
-bill

I'm in the spirit but behind in performance. We have purchased few gifts but since this is the last day of school Barb and I plan to shop into the night. This is the smallest amount of lights I've ever had on my house which could be a sign of age as well.
