Finding Direction: The Wind Vane Chronicles

Third Annual Winter Desktop Photo Contest Kicks Off Today

Here’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for.  Some of you for the last three years if you haven’t been named some kind of winner, at least, in one of the bi-annual Finding Direction Desktop Photo Contests, summer and winter.

While the Finding Direction Judges find it hard to believe that there could possibly be any serious contestants out there who haven’t won at least some accolades, if not the grand prize, which is to be highly honored here among the best of the best, if you should be one of those, jump in this time with your photos and join the fun.

The rules are simple (There are rules?!?), with only one stipulation this time.  Your photos must have a tree or trees in them, or at least some wood.  They can be in the background or off to the side and may have people and/or animals and or boats (which are sometimes wooden) or anything else in them as long as there is a tree or some wood present (tables, chairs, etc – get creative).

Remember, too, these are to be winter pictures, not spring, fall or summer.  WINTER!  So, take heed when you’re pouring through your photos for some "winter" winners.

You have three weeks here to get them in to me, as I am the Finding Direction Judges’ spokesperson.  Email them to me as jpgs (or mail me paper photos that I can scan) at dee_andrews@bellsouth.net  and send as many as you like.  They can be black and white or color.  They can be some you took, borrowed or some off the internet.  Just look out for copyrighted work, is all.

The deadline for submissions is the weekend of February 9 & 10.  The winners will be named and featured shortly after that, which is always a really fun time.

Here’s a review of some of the winners from the last several desktop photo contests.  First, here are the winners from the First Annual Finding Direction Winter Desktop Photo Contest from January 25, 2006.

Next, are the winners from the Second Annual Finding Direction Winter Desktop Photo Contest from February 6, 2007.

Here we have the winners of the First Annual Finding Direction Summer Desktop Photo Contest from August 7, 2006.

And, finally, the winners from the Second Annual Finding Direction Summer Desktop Photo Contest from September 9, 2007.

You can get an idea from the number of categories and the number of winners that you have an excellent chance of becoming one in some category or other if you will but pay a bit of attention to what you are doing.  Bribes have become a part of the voting system in the last two contests (just kidding, folks!), but they must be good ones to compete, as well, so make them worth while.

The judges have been offered some interesting things to make them sway the vote, including the offer of a free tatoo (which is still being considered from a long time ago and may be for a long time to come yet) and the appearance of one of the judges, who shall remain nameless, except that the character, which was actually written in, is "Delilah Andrews," in an online novel being written by one of the contestants.

Okay – let’s start snapping pictures and going through the ones we have to see what we can find.  If you have paper photographs you want to mail, I can scan them and use them, too.  Just email me and I’ll give you my address.

Y’all have fun now!  And let the bribes and camaraderie begin.
