Basic Rules For Daily Living

I'm borrowing my post today from "This Day's Thought," which is a wonderful service I receive every morning in my e-mail.  It has a Thought for the Day, a Scripture for the Day, and often times a Smile for the Day.  It operates in connection with Guideposts and I highly recommend it to you.

I thought that today's Thought for the Day must have been written directly for me, because it sounds exactly where I am in my life right now.  It has some excellent "basic" rules for living, so take a couple of minutes and read them.

BASIC RULES FOR DAILY LIVING

1.  Take twenty minutes by yourself at the beginning of each day.

2.  Live above small troubles by losing yourself in big, worthwhile interests.

3.  Grow every day; life is a game; keep your eye on the ball, rather than on the scoreboard.

4.  Have power to see things through; keep remembering that most accomplishments are three-fourths drudgery, and one-fourth joy.

5.  Alternate your interests.  It is better to be busy than bored.  Balance your life with work, play, love, and worship.

6.  Be gracious to others; do kind deeds beyond the call of duty; remember that every person is fighting a battle.

7.  Talk over your problems with others- with confiding friends, your doctor of medicine, your minister, your God.

8.  Work and co-operate with God, praying that God will do something through you rather than for you.

On another note . . . how many of you watched the Super Bowl last night?  Tom was away, so I went over to my son's house to watch the game with them and we were rooting for the Giants.  Not only was it one of the best Super Bowl games I've seen in as long as I can remember, the Giants pulled a big upset victory, which made it a fantastic game!  Yea!

I was also glad that I was feeling well enough to get out and go over to Mark's (he came and picked me up about 3:30 p.m. and brought me home after the game because I can't see to drive at night).  There were a few others there and I haven't really been able to be around many people for a long time now, so I was glad that I felt okay about it yesterday.

My new medication seems to be working, for which I'm very thankful.  Thank y'all for all of the prayers and good wishes.  They have helped tremendously, too, just to know about them.  Y'all bring me great comfort.

Finally, don't forget the current Finding Direction photo contest (it's the Third Annual Finding Direction Winter Desktop Photo Contest) that will end this weekend.  So, get your photos to me (by e-mail, preferably as jpgs) some time this week.  You can find the rules here.

A lot of really good photos have come in, but we need even more, so get busy looking through your photos and send some in.  You don't even have to take them yourselves, remember!

Cheers & Blessings to you all today!  Dee

I’d have to get up two hours earlier to have 20 minutes to myself on any given morning!

I did watch the game (paid almost no attention to the commercials) and loved the outcome.

    So glad you’re feeling better!!!

    Dee,
Your post made me cry today.
I don’t know if it is because the Spirit spoke to my heart. If it is my neverse about tomorrow with the Nuerologist. I believe, really believe this is true. I am going to start living by these rules. I think if I did I would live a more balanced life. I think that is what I need in my life is balance. I may be speeking new age but I really need to find a “spiritual center” and I think when I find that “spritual center” I will be the person God has called me to be: a better husband, lover, husband, minister, but most importantly enjoy the simple things around me. The simple pleasures. Frienships. The cup of coffee in the morning. The sunrise and sunsets. The way the wind feels. We are all part of this earth. I believe we are all living and are all dying. The real question is how do we want to die? How do we want to be remembered? Dee, thank you for this post on a day I needed it. Thank you for allow the Spirit speak to me through your works. Thank you for letting me see life and even death in a new way. Please keep me in your prayers. If you and your readers would like to know our prayer needs it is on my new post. I may not be posting in a while because I am a lot of pain. I pray the doctors can get rid of the pain. It can sleep. I have been sick at my stomach. I have a family to take care of as well and a wife that has the world on her shoulders who I love more than anything in the world.
Please. Please. Please. Keep us in your prayers.

So glad you were able to go spend some time with your family and enjoy the Super Bowl. It was a good game and my hubby was very happy with the outcome. He isn’t a big NY fan, just likes rooting for the underdog! We always enjoy the commercials. Did you happen to see the one for Doritos, where the guy is trying to catch a mouse with a little piece of nacho cheese doritos? Too funny!

I am having a really lousy week, seems everyone and everything has made it their personal goal to mess with me this week! Hope things get better soon. I told my hubby that he was going to come home from work one day and I was going to be running buck naked down the street screaming like a banshee! I will be sure and send you the news clipping if it actually happens! :)
