I am so happy to hear you are in Abilene. I went to Abilene several weekends ago and thought of you and knowing you were wanting to be there. Sorry I have not responded to your posts as of late. I had a tonsillectomy done last week.

Yeah! Here I am 56y and having my tonsils out. I heard it would be horrible, but fortunately my high pain tolerance and a good doctor, it has not been bad. He did a new procedure, no stitches. It is called coblation and yes I have had a sore throat but have been able to eat whatever I want. I have had a burger, pizza and yesterday my family took me for Mexican food. I am going back to work this afternoon.

So, sorry I have been away, but so glad to hear you are in Abilene and enjoying your visit. Take care of yourself and enjoy!

Dee,
I can understand your pain for your daughter. I have had Type 1 diabetes for 36 years. My youngest daughter developed Type 2 diabetes when she was 25 (she is 34 now) and my oldest daughter had gestational diabetes last year which means she is also a prime candidate for Type 2. I work hard to keep my diabetes under control and applaud you for instilling in your daughter such strength to face diabetes with her head held high. Hugs!
Happy Mother's Day to you!

Yours and Rebecca's stories make me ashamed to even mention being "borderline" diabetic. It's been 5-6 years since I was diagnosed. It immediately got my attention because I have a huge amount of the really ugly stuff in my family (complete with amputations, etc.) but, so far, I've managed without medication to keep it under control. I am thankful and am also thankful that you were able to help your daughter and she has done so well. Diabetes is certainly something to be reckoned with.

I'm with Cecil. I hope the gravy was white! Continue to have a wonderful time. And Happy Mother's Day!!

Dee, I read almost all of your posts ... sorry I don't comment more.

What a beautiful story for Mother's Day ... one mother loving her daughter ... who grew up to love her children ... your instincts were right ... amazing story. Love ya!

Mmmmmmm, chicken fried steak and gravy. One of my favorite, down south meals!

I had no idea your daughter had diabetes as well. I work primarily with adults, but I have some diabetes educator friends who work with kids newly diagnosed with type 1, and they said it is often so heartbreaking. I am so thankful you were so strong for Rebecca, and I pray that those complications stay away!

Please tell me the gravy was white? I love white gravy!
Thank you for sharing Rebecca's story with us.
Oh, can you send some of those 70's towards Florida? It was 94 today! Yikes.

That's just great, Dee! You invite us for lunch and before we can get there, you tell us not to bother, it's 1:30 and lunch is over. I'm not sure how to process this letdown??

Sounds like a wonderful visit you'll be having. And a great job of mothering Rebecca through that initial crisis. I've fallen apart so many times only to put on that "face" when I had to for my children.
