It’s good to be home, but I’m tired.

Pulled in about 1:45 p.m.  The trip back home took 4 hours, as opposed to 5 1/2 hours going up to Jackson.

It was raining when I left and traffic was fairly heavy trying to get out of town.  It continued raining on me for about an hour, and then changed to just being high overcast.

There was a lot of traffic coming south, but I was able to drive the speed limit for the most part.  The closer I got to Picayune, the heavier the traffic.  All roads from everywhere coming toward the Mississippi gulf coast and New Orleans are jam packed, but I was able to get off the interstate before running into any of it, for which I was glad.

Tom came home from work before 3:30 p.m. feeling really bad with a hacking cough and achiness.  He sprained his back Sunday boarding up windows at the newspaper and since has been coughing his head off, which has also made his ribs hurt.  He’s lying on the sofa being pitiful at the moment, but that’s okay.  I’m waiting on him hand and foot, which was what he wanted most before I got home.

He told me while ago that he told everyone at work this morning he couldn’t wait for me to get home so I could take care of him and, believe me, he’s taking full advantage of it.  That’s what wives are for, I suppose.  To take care of ailing husbands and to feel guilty for being off having a good time while they were gone!

And, I have to admit – besides all of the hassle throwing stuff together to evacuate and the stressful long trips to and fro, while I was there, I had a great time.  Layne was a gracious host, the two cats were fun, we ate out some good places a couple of nights (while poor Tom was back here sick on his cot in his office, which for the record, I did not know the first night and next day) and I basically lazed around.

Now, however, I’m back to reality and there is a whole lot to be done around here to try to get everything back in order.  Or not, for a while, depending on what the series of storms coming across the Atlantic decide to do.  I just hope and pray we don’t have to go through all of this again within a few days or next couple of weeks.  Having to evacuate wasn’t that fun.

Well . . . I need to go.  The master is calling.  He needs some good company and a cover for his legs.

Duty calls.

Y’all take care.  Cheers & Blessings to you all today!

Dee

Poor Tom, sorry he is not feeling well. Just between us girls, I think there might be a reason that only women go through childbirth (besides the whole Eve messed it up for all of us!) :) Glad you are back safe and sound….there really is “No place like home.”

Sure are glad you’re safely home … that your home was unscathed by the storms spawned from the hurricane … and hoping Tom is better real soon. When things settle down, shoot me an email as I want to call you and get your take on a legal situation involving others in my family. Many hugs to you!

P.S. – Any trip that involves time spent with cats is a good trip! :)

I would say I hope Tom feels better soon but there’s nothing like having your wife take care of you when you’re sick. It’s amzazing that we don’t hurt ourselves more often and severely when having to prep a home or business for a hurricane.

Praise the Lord, Gustav calmed down and stayed on course……for us at least in Southeast Texas. We ended up not evaucating and schools here did not go back until Thursday, waiting on people to come back home from evaucating!

All in all, the way we like hurricanes! I am like you, watching the lined up storms, but this morning, things pretty good in our neck of the woods, at least this time.

Glad you are home and hope everyone gets to feeling better soon!

We left Wednesday to pick up a handicap couple who evacuated Saturday to Dallas and we went to bring them back home. Got home last night late and I am bushed! Road weary and ready to stay home for a bit! Stay safe and only 8 more weeks of season left!
