Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and
murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit
suicide.
- John Adams, letter to John Taylor (4/15/1814)
This week on the Writer’s Almanac, Garrison Keillor quoted the words above by John Adams. John Adams wrote these words about democracy nearly 200 years ago. About the length of time in history that most republics have lasted.*
Please pray that whichever candidate is elected president of the United States of America four days from now, he will seek God’s guidance in his all of his dealings.

I am probably more concerned that our new president will surround himself with godly counselors. Jimmy Carter was a godly man who surrounded himself with bad counselors.
I’m more concerned about this Presidential Election than any before. It is good to be a Christian in these uncertain times.
I guess from an historical perspective, we’re overdue committing suicide. I’m sure you’ve noticed this, too, Dee but I’ve watched our nation on a downhill slide for decades now and I’m not an old guy. It seems whomever is in the White House only speeds up or slows down the same progression toward ruin. Neither of our present candidates inspires any hope in my heart.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful quotes with us. I have been blessed by this information from many of our leaders in America. All I have to say is I can’t wait until it is all over.
