Each year the soldiers of the Third United States Infantry Regiment
("The Old Guard") take part in the ceremony called "Flags In." Just
before Memorial Day, each grave in Arlington National Cemetery is
decorated with a small American flag.
The flags remain in place until the conclusion of the Memorial Day
Weekend when they are all removed. It is the only time during the year
when American flags are permitted at all gravesites in the Cemetery.

I wonder if it is a national thing? I know they do something similar at Leavenworth National Cemetery (where my first wife is buried) on Memorial Day – it is quite a site to behold.
When most politicians use the military for political gain, I’m glad there are those who still simply honor the military and pay respect to those who gave their lives so politicians can do whatever it is they do that seems to continually screw up the country.
We go to Riverside National Cemetery often to bury vets and their spouses and I always have such an overwhelming sense of just how sacred is that ground.
Always brings a lump to my throat!
To those we owe a huge debt of gratitude that cannot be repaid.
