This quote by C. S. Lewis came in my “This Day’s Thought” Friday email. (Note: If you don’t subscribe to this service, I would highly recommend it.) I think it is not only deeply profound, but encouraging and uplifting in these troubled times our nation and the entire world face.
Historically, Lewis lived through World War II in England in the midst of world chaos and war and I’m sure was thinking of those things when he wrote this. He has long been one of my favorite Christian writers and philosophers.
May we all be encouraged and prayerful today as we think on these things.
Many blessings to you all today! Dee
If individuals live only seventy years, then a state, or a nation, or a civilization, which may last for a thousand years, is more important than an individual. But if Christianity is true, then the individual is not only more important but incomparably more important, for he is everlasting and the life of a state or a civilization, compared with his, is only a moment.
C. S. Lewis

I would say for the most part, our educational system has pretty much convinced people that we do only live 70 years. We have an amazing ability to just get things totally bassackwards, don’t we?
CS Lewis was pretty profound for an unimmersed man, wasn’t he? (Yes, I am stirring..)
What is sad is for an individual to breathe air for 70 years but not actually “live” any of them. The value Christ has given to however many years we have is both powerful and comforting. Kingdoms rise and fall……………
