Did YOU Get An iPod For Christmas? Do You HAVE One?

December 28th, 2009 · 11 Comments · Humor, Tom & Me

I’m taking a less than scientific survey here today to see what all y’all got for Christmas.  There’s a reason, which I shall delve into next time.  Surrounds the esteemed Tom Andrews, of course, who is most dejected that out of the probably 12 relatives and friends he called Christmas Day, at “least” 75% (or more) got the same one thing that he (thought he) most wanted, but did not get).

I’m hoping to lower those odds a bit by seeing what all of the rest of you received to show him that he was not the “ONLY ONE” who did not receive said gift.   But, I guess to be really fair, I need to ask you, also, if you already have one (again, since he is positive that he, alone in the world, is the sole human being denied the pleasure of such treasure.

Of what do I speak?

An iPod, of course.

iPods

There is much more to this story, but I shall save it until next time.  For today your assignment is to share with me whether (1) you have an iPod, and (2) if you did not, did you get one for Christmas.  I want lots of comments on this so I can have a large statistical basis from which to either convince Tom he isn’t all alone in the world on this front or that he can (nearly said “needs,” but I’m trying to eliminate that world from his vocabulary) get one with his gift cards/coupons and save up the rest.  (What?  Save, you say, he tells me.  What is this “save” word of which you speak?)  (That goes right along with his “needs” word problem, in my humble opinion, but I am just a lowly woman of apparently low T.I.  (Technological Intelligence).

What say ye?!  iPod or no iPod.

I’ll even throw in a related question.  Do you think the highly technically skilled complete man should have one?

Cheers!  Vote!

Dee

My answer will not help build your case, but I have two iPods. I have an older 20gig and a newer, slimmer 1gig. I use the older one much more frequently, though it is a dinosaur and bulky. It has hundreds and hundreds of my songs on it.

Does Tom need one? Women should never ask nor attempt to answer that question on behalf of a man. That’s like asking a man if his wife needs another pair of shoes!

My son gave me my iPod nano last Christmas. I love it! Easy to use. Anyone, regardless of gender, who loves music should have one.

I have two ipods and an iphone. My son (23)who lives at home and works at an Apple store insists that his dad have the latest “tools”. He has already told me he will give me his 32gb iphone as soon as the next model comes out.

I would recommend going with touch or an iphone and skipping the ipod. They do so much more with wifi and apps. My favorite app is my Bible app. Everywhere I go, anytime I have a few spare minutes I can go to God’s Word. I can email scripture as encouragement to friends anytime. This has been huge for my spiritual life and body life. Music is just a little frosting on top of all the other functional tools.

You are asking a former ‘Apple Corporate employee/friend if she has an iPod? Yes, an iPod shuffle I bought myself about two years ago that I love to use when I walk. It is a wonderful companion. I have not ventured into the iPhone arena but some family members have one. I love my iMac. I have had an Apple Computer in my home since 1982 and cannot imagine using any other brand. (I had to use a PC when working in Tehachapi and grumbled every day.) The very neatest thing is that the VP of iPod and iPhone Marketing came to us as a young man right out of the University of Michigan in the 80′s, and we have been friends ever since. So, I vote for Tom to have an iPod ASAP, or iPhone, if that seems to work best for his needs/wants. Go Tom!!!

When my son came for Thanksgiving 3 years ago, we rushed out to the big 11 p.m. sale for me to purchase an IPOD. I wanted to download such programs as Speaking of Faith (we don’t get it in Houston), Prairie Home Companion, lectures, etc. to listen to when I’m traveling alone between Houston & Dallas. You can even download Oxford courses. Also have some music.

No iPod or iphone in this house. I’m sure I wouldn’t even know how to use one. We still have records and tapes. Guess we are just old fashioned.

I got a sweater. The sweater was too small. We tried to exchange it today but they had sold out. We looked for another sweater but couldn’t find anything we liked so, essentially, I got nothing. But, we’re planning to get a water softner for the house (which will require some expensive plumbing) as our annual Christmas splurge (we do get gifts for all the grandchildren). The two little gifts I gave Marty were utilitarian, not very personal, so I guess Christmas gift exchange at our house was a bust.
Don’t have an iPod. I’m sure Tom would get a good laugh if he saw the primitive cell phones we use. They’re just telephones – designed for talking to people, the old fashioned way. No texting, no internet, no extras. They will take pictures but we don’t know how to use that feature. Wow, are we behind?!

I do not have an iPod. Nobody in my house has an iPod. I did not get an iPod for Christmas. I do not want an iPod. There is enough technological stuff to have to try and figure out already without adding one! I am technologically challenged.

I did get 1) new pair of walking shoes (on sale at Penney’s); 2) photo album for a project I’m starting; 3) new purse; 4) shared gift of a digital picture frame; 5) shared gift of 2010 calendar complete with family pictures; and 6) $50 in cash.

    Hope I helped!!! :)

    1. I have an iPod Touch.

    2. I did not get an iPod for Christmas this year (but my son did — an iPod Touch).

I do have an iPod. We bought it for a good cause (fund-raising auction for local technical college)! I also have a shuffle, my husband has the new teeny tiny shuffle, and my daughter has an older one. I have an iPhone and iMac computer, too. I like my shuffle because it’s handy for when I go walk/jog outside or at the gym or work in the yard.
I’m not going to comment on whether Tom “needs” it or not. ;-) I know he would really enjoy it, though.
